Our core subjects

English

Primary – KS3 / GCSE KS4 / A Level KS5

General English sessions develop understanding and confidence in spoken and written English. We use books, films, and stories in general to develop the ability to write in an organized and interesting way. All aspects of the school curriculum are included.

At GCSE ESB offers support for both Language and Literature. Most students study both and ESB weaves them together to make them clearer and easier. However, students can choose to study just one. For literature, ALL set texts are studied and we prepare students for exams from ALL examining boards. If you’re home educated you can choose to cover the whole course in a block, in just a few months.

At A level sessions enable a complete understanding of either Language or Literature. All set texts are studied and we prepare our students for exams from all examining boards.

Maths

Primary – KS3 / GCSE KS4 / A Level KS5

Maths from primary to a A level and beyond. ESB has had success with pupils of all levels of ability from those who struggle to the high flyers as we adapt to each individual, helping strengthen an area of weakness and pushing further in areas of high competence. We use your favorite books, films, and real-life experiences to inspire new stories to write and share. What was it like to be the captain on the doomed Titanic voyage? Would you like to be a time traveler visiting the dinosaurs? Oh no, a spaceship has crashed into your back garden! Each club meets for a month and by the end, helped by professional writers, we sprinkle a little bit of magic… everyone becomes a published author in the ESB ” Once upon a  time” book.

English & Drama

Young Speakers Club

The Young Speaker’s Club focuses on storytelling, the power of voice and tonality when it comes to telling powerful stories. One of the biggest fear we develop is the fear of public speaking. As we grow older, this fear gets stronger. Imagine if you could give the gift of public speaking to your kids. Imagine developing their self confidence, enabling them to feel excited by any opportunity to speak. Imagine just how much your child could accomplish and how much further they’d go in life by developing such a key skill.

11+ & Common Entrance Preparation & Exams

The 11+ is a competitive exam and can be set by the LS (stte only), an individual school or group of schools, or by a separate provider (like ISEB and the CE exam board). The usually cover maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.

Common entrance exams are used by the private sector only, and is not competitive (ISEB 13+). Students must have a conditional offer from the school in order to sit the test.

We make sure that you understand and gain practise in all aspects of both entrance exam series. We also help you to understand the specifics for your region or target school.

Our tutors can support students as a residency at your home by arrangement.

Trinity, LAMDA, Drama School Preparation & Auditions

Drama is a practical subject and, alongside assessment guidelines, assessments will be made of the student’s performance skills as we move through the process. Frequent constructive verbal feedback will be given to students throughout sessions from the teacher. Students will also be encouraged to assess their own work in performance using a common set of criteria, as well as develop their critical and reflective skills in response to performance.

Beyond the exam framework drama students gain and develop their creativity to follow their dreams and reach for the stars.

Our intent is to nurture an enjoyment and understanding of drama through practical experience and to develop both subject specific and transferable skills that empower students. We focus on encouraging teamwork, creativity, reflection and communication. We aim to engage students and build confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.

Drama should inspire students to develop inquisitive minds. It should develop their understanding of the function of drama in civilisation and equip them for life with the necessary skills to become reflective, responsible adults with the ability to make a positive contribution to society.

Child Centred Learning

What our Students and parents say…

My son has always been uncomfortable with English and has lacked imagination when it comes to creative writing. He has various special needs including high anxiety. We met with Helen and she immediately put him at ease. Her approach is refreshing and encouraging. After four sessions she has managed to ignite an interest in literature and a sense of excitement about language. We look forward to regular lessons in preparation for GCSE with a renewed sense of optimism. I’d have no hesitation in recommending The Complete Works.

J

Our 10 yr old daughter had a few weeks out of school whilst we stayed in Leamington for family reasons. To keep learning on the agenda, we looked for tutoring options and were delighted to find The Complete works as they had a few options and were delighted to find The Complete works as they had a few options available for homeschoolers. Once Upon a Time was a fun creative writing course taught b the lovely Annie. My daughter enjoyed the lessons not just for the writing but also for the inspiration to learn more about WW2 and codebreaking.. I appreciated Helen’s flexibility in allowing my daughter to join for the few weeks we were there.

E

I would definitely recommend Helen. For the first time in 30 years I had to consider writing my CV. Gone are the days when a list of exam results would suffice. Helen offered me brilliant ideas on layout, languagge I could use and, more importantly, the confidence that I could achieve whatever i put my mind to. Brilliant, friendly lady who gives her time and experience 👍 Thank you Helen.
